Over the past year, I’ve asked people to share what their biggest challenge in fundraising is. What follows here is just a small sample of what many of you have had to overcome to win support for your organization:
“My boss and his outdated ideas.”
“The fear of making an ask that is beyond my donors’ means.”
“Being afraid to share too much information due to the sensitive nature of the work we do.”
“Overcoming the resistance of our private community to use real stories due to its cultural traditions.”
“Being too timid to ask boldly.”
“I’m new and don’t want to offend anyone.”
“Managing so many tasks all by myself.”
“The red tape (permissions) I have to cut through to get anything done.”
“I don’t have a personal connection with our audience.”
”This organization has a long history of only asking once per year.”
There’s a lot that keeps people and organizations from asking for the support they desperately need.
So if you and your team were successful in sending out your end-of year appeal, bravo to you!
Maybe it was your own fears that you overcame. Or the objections of your bosses. And you jumped over hurdles to do so!! That took some doing, I’m sure.
In so doing, you served your cause and beneficiaries at the same time. And, you allowed your donors the opportunity to do something that made them feel good about themselves during the holiday season.
Now it’s time to start thinking about your Spring Appeal. Give us a call. We’re ready to assist you in that endeavor.
Happy New Year from the Rescigno team!
