Do you know what a major gift donor “looks” like? You should. Otherwise, you’re just spinning your fundraising wheels.
Here are some tell-tale signs to look for (and the best part is they’re probably hiding right there in your data base):
Major gift donors usually don’t have many family responsibilities. They’re either married or widowed, with no children or dependents.
Major gift donors may be serving on your board or be active volunteers.
Major gift donors give to your organization annually and for a number of years.
Major gift donors to your organization believe in the services you provide even though they may not yet be active supporters.
Major gift donors no longer are in the “amassing wealth” phase of their lives.
Major gift donors have plenty of disposable income.
Major gift donors are financially capable of making large gifts.
